Norah Jones: Come away with me
Style: Waltz
Difficulty: Easy
It is so difficult to find a modern song for a first dance which is in the style of slow waltz.
Every dance teacher who offers first dance lessons will tell you that one of the most requested dance styles for weddings are the Slow Waltz and the Viennese Waltz.
I can find hundreds of first dance songs which are Viennese Waltz (which is very hard to dance to without many lessons), but finding a classic, slow waltz for first dance lessons is incredibly difficult (unless you go back over a hundred years)
Therefore, Norah Jones is always highly recommended by me as an ideal song choice for first dance lessons.
It has an extremely clear beat so during your wedding dance lessons, timing is never an issue for this song. Also, because it is a slow waltz, it is very easy to remain on beat or find it again if you lose it. This makes choreographing a risk-free first dance, and then teaching it during your lessons, much easier (which helps to take the stress out of it!)
This is also an ideal wedding song choice for a first dance for couples who want a slower, more romantic song. It is very easy to listen to, and spectators will love it.
I have listed the lyrics below for you to have a look, but I would always recommend this song for those couples who want to use a slow waltz for their first dance lessons.
Come away with me in the night Come away with me And I will write you a song
Come away with me on a bus Come away where they can't tempt us with their lies
And I want to walk with you On a cloudy day In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high So won't you try to come
Come away with me and we'll kiss On a mountaintop Come away with me And I'll never stop loving you
And I want to wake up with the rain Falling on a tin roof While I'm safe there in your arms So all I ask is for you To come away with me in the night Come away with me
