This weeks top song for wedding dance lessons near you!

Pointless by Lewis Capaldi

Style: Viennese Waltz/American smooth Viennese waltz/Lyrical/4 beat

Difficulty: Easy (4 beat)/hard (Viennese Waltz)

This great first dance song was released very recently, but I’ve already had several requests from couples who want to use it in their wedding dance lessons.

Not only has Lewis Capaldi got an amazing voice, but the song itself is built very well. Especially for first dances.

It starts with just Lewis’ voice and the piano, and is quite mellow – which is great time to learn an introduction for a first dance, then is builds in volume before the main beat starts about 40 seconds in. This would be a good place for the main routine of the first dance to start.

The song then has a very good structure of Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, interlude, and Chorus, all of which have good pauses in between, which we can use as checkpoints during your first dance, or use them as an end point or start point. These checkpoints are also useful during the dance lessons as goals to work towards when learning the routine. Like little milestones.

The beat itself is a very good Viennese Waltz beat. So those couples who have a long time to learn their wedding dance can decide, if they want to, to learn this very tricky but most elegant of dance styles in their dance lessons. I use this song in my ballroom dancing lessons for adults and children as well - once they have learned to dance it up to speed!

For first dance lessons where I choreograph a Viennese Waltz routine, I will also add some open figures (figures where the couple dance out of hold) because they work well to Viennese Waltz music and look fabulous in photos.

For those couples who want an easier dance style for their first dance, you can learn a dance style of my own creation called ‘4 BEAT’, which works to almost every song of this style.

4 beat is great for wedding dance lessons because it is easy to learn, and it doesn’t matter how big your dress is, or if it drapes on the floor. It also works on any size dance floor, which I mark out in your dance lessons and the steps are very elegant, but deceptively simple to learn!

Also, you can still use the open figures which are usually saved for Viennese Waltz first dances, which again, make for great photos.

This is the reason I created the 4-beat dance style for my wedding dance lessons. It means couples can choose the songs with the trickier, and faster beats, and still use them for their first dance. I also teach 4-beat in my adult and children’s beginners ballroom dancing lessons too, because it is a great foundation on which to build the dancing technique; and it helps people learn to dance quickly.

So, not only are the lyrics amazing (which I have listed below) as well as Lewis’s voice; you can also choose between a fast and elegant (Viennese Waltz) or a slow and elegant style (The 4-beat) for me to teach you in your first dance lessons. This is why this song is highly recommended by myself, not just for my ballroom dancing lessons, but my wedding dance lessons too.

Lyrics

I bring her coffee in the morning She brings me inner peace I take her out to fancy restaurants She takes the sadness out of me I make her cards on her birthday She makes me a better man I take her water when she's thirsty She takes me as I am

I love it when her mind wanders And she loves it when I stay at home I know when she's lost and she knows when I feel alone

From all my airs and graces To the little things I do Everything is pointless without you Of all the dreams I'm chasing There's only one I choose Everything is pointless without you

I light the fire when it's cold out And she lights up the room I hope that she'll love me forever She hopes I'll be back soon I take her out to the movies She takes away my pain She is the start of everything And I'll be there 'til the end

I love when she laughs for no reason And her love's the reason I'm here She knows when I'm hurt and I know when she's feeling scared, mm

From all my airs and graces To the little things I do Everything is pointless without you Of all the dreams I'm chasing There's only one I choose Everything is pointless without you

I'll wait for you I'll wait for you You'll wait for me too I'll wait for you I'll wait for you You'll wait for me too

From all my airs and graces To the little things I do Everything is pointless without you Of all the dreams I'm chasing There's only one I choose Everything is pointless without you

Everything is pointless without you
