This weeks top song for wedding dance lessons near you!

You’re just too good to be true by Andy Williams or Frankie Valli and the four seasons

Style: Rumba or Lyrical

Difficulty: Easy

Recently I have delivered first dance lessons for both the Frankie Valli and Andy Williams versions of this song. Both versions have amazing vocals; with Frankie Valli's almost superhuman high notes and Andy Williams very relaxing and mellow voice. This makes it very difficult to choose between the two for a first dance.

Both versions of the song are very similar in speed, and the dance style that works best for these songs is the Rumba: a very romantic style with smooth hip action, underarm turns, spirals, elegant leg action and many other open movements which look great in either a wedding dress or a suit. The Rumba is very popular in my adult and children’s dancing lessons too.

A basic Rumba dance routine is also very easy to learn, and because it doesn’t take up much space (you only need 5 metres by 5 meters if that), it works on almost any dance floor.

When I have created dance routines for the Rumba for a wedding dance, I can teach my couples some really elegant looking moves, but which are actually very easy to learn e.g., the spiral from a natural top (very nice in a wedding dress because of the way it makes it coil around the dancer) or the solo turns, which can feature some very nice matching arm lines for both dancers.

The other major advantage of these songs is that they are generally really well known. Often, when I have taught a wedding dance to this song, the rest of the guests are singing along for the entire duration. This doesn’t always happen for the more obscure song choices for a first dance.

There is also a very clear point in the song where I can teach you to dance an ending. Everyone knows the bit: just before they sing ‘I love you baby, and if it’s quite alright I need you baby…’ there is a build-up (1 minute 20 seconds for the Frankie Valli and 1 minute 10 seconds for the Andy Williams), where I usually choreograph a dance sequence that builds in speed, and right before they sing ‘I love you baby’ we prepare the ending (usually a drop or lift) to be danced right at this moment.

The audience will then (without any prompt) usually sing the chorus with you as you finish the dance, and then join you on the dance floor for the rest of the song.

I have listed the lyrics below, so you can see for yourself that they are also very apt for a first dance. After each dance lesson with me, you will be singing this song for many hours as it’s very catchy.

So, it’s up to you whether you want to use the Frankie Valli version or the Andy Williams version. You can’t go wrong…

Lyrics

You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off you You'd be like heaven to touch I want to hold you so much

At long last love has arrived And I thank God I'm alive You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off you

Pardon the way that I stare There's nothing else to compare The sight of you leaves me weak There are no words left to speak

But if you feel like I feel Please let me know that it's real You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off you

I love you, baby, and if it's quite alright I need you, baby, to warm the lonely night I love you, baby Trust in me when I say

Oh, pretty baby, don't bring me down I pray Oh, pretty baby, now that I've found you stay And let me love you, baby Let me love you

You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off you You'd be like heaven to touch I want to hold you so much

At long last love has arrived And I thank God I'm alive You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off you

I love you baby, and if it's quite alright I need you baby to warm the lonely night I love you baby Trust in me when I say

Oh, pretty baby, don't bring me down I pray Oh, pretty baby, now that I've found you stay Oh, pretty baby, trust in me when I say Oh, pretty baby
